Working for the U.S. House Committee on the Budget
By Sujan Garapati '25Over the summer, I served as a Legislative Intern for the House Committee on the Budget. The Budget Committee's principal responsibility is to develop a concurrent resolution on the budget to serve as the framework for congressional action on spending, revenue, and debt-limit legislation. However, my work focused on budget process reform. More specifically, I was tasked with thinking of ways to address budget gimmicks that are used to create additional spending.
In the process, I improved my research, communication, and writing skills. It also solidified my passion for economic policy. While I loved my budget work, my favorite part of the summer were all of the intern events on the Hill. I was able to be a "fly on the wall" in many informative meetings. It was a great summer!
