Furthering a Passion for Software Engineering

By Rafael Almeida ‘27
Learning what it takes to be a successful software engineer in the workplace

This summer, I had the privilege of collaborating with peers from all over the US. In our specific project, the Listing Hosting Engine, I worked alongside two talented engineers. Together, we combined our expertise and past projects to deliver a modular and scalable platform for any business to list its products.

About Smashamp:

  • A leader in innovative tech solutions, empowers businesses to create and manage listings with unique branding, domains, and seamless integrations, all while leveraging a unified backend system
  • The Listing Hosting Engine is designed to be accessible to users of all technical levels. It includes powerful features such as shared payments, communication logic, and intelligent filter composition.

My experience:

  • I could go on and on about how much I learned about myself, but in summary, I got exposed to my personality in the workforce and the chance to reflect on what type of coworker I want to be
  • This internship only solidified my passion for software engineering—hopefully, a lifelong career
  • I learned that beyond needing to be a great coder, a successful software engineer has the commercial implications of his work, a skill that flourished during this summer.
  • Aside from the rewarding work, I also cherished the casual lunches and hangouts we shared. These moments added fun to our professional journey, for which I am truly grateful.
