The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Safe App is available on the and Google Play app stores and allows you to receive instant notifications and instructions from ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ College Safety when major on-campus emergencies occur.
Universal Event Safety Tips:
- Think about potential safety issues and plan ahead to prevent them. Emergencies might include fire, first aid, adverse weather, disruptive crowd members, and more.
- Designate a specific person to call 9-1-1 in case of emergency.
- Ensure event staff and ushers are aware of the location of exits, lights, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and AEDs (see posted building Evacuation Plans)
- Identify the designated rally point to direct people to in case of evacuation (see posted building Evacuation Plans)
- Keep exit corridors and doors free of obstruction and trip and fall hazards

What is the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Safe App and who is it for?
The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Safe App was developed by the Office of Safety and Security, it offers many functions; emergency notifications, report crime/incident, counseling support services, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Shuttle, virtual walk home, and more. For events, the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Safe App is most useful for receiving notifications about major campus wide emergencies. The App can be downloaded by anyone, including the general public.
What is an AED?
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a medical device used to treat people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It should be used when someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally and when you suspect they are experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. AED’s are designed to be easy to operate and include instructions.
How do I use a fire extinguisher?
To use a fire extinguisher, remember the acronym “PASS”. PULL the pin, AIM at the base of the fire, SQUEEZE the handle to release the extinguishing agent, and SWEEP the nozzle from side to side at the base of the fire until the flames are out. Remember, fire extinguishers should only be used in very limited situations where fire is small and contained.
What do I do if a crowd member is disruptive?
If the topic of your event is controversial and/or may invite disruptive crowd members, the best thing to do is have a plan. You may contact ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Safety and Security to ask for an officer to be present at the event.
