The pioneering mass timber project comprising Barry Mills Hall and the John and Lile Gibbons Center for Arctic Studies has won a 2024 Wood in Architecture Award.
Presented by Wood Works—Wood Products Council on June 6 at the American Institute of Architect’s 2024 national conference in Washington, DC, the award honors excellence and innovation in American building projects using mass timber, heavy timber, light-frame, and hybrid building design.

The Gibbons Center and Barry Mills Hall have the distinction of being the first commercial-scale, fully mass timber buildings in the state and were named in the higher education/research category by Engineering News-Record (ENR) New England, a weekly trade magazine covering the construction industry.
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ was one of ten institutions to receive funding from the US Forest Service in partnership with the US Endowment for Forestry and Communities, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that works collaboratively with partners in the public and private sectors to advance systemic, transformative and sustainable change for the health and vitality of the nation’s working forests and forest-reliant communities.
