Amid stunning weather and against the backdrop of a campus that never looked more beautiful, Reunion Weekend was, by all accounts, a huge success.

Polar Bears from “the four and nine years” celebrated their milestones while catching up at the lobster bakes and other meals; talks, including a conversation around Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich ’14’s ongoing detainment in Russia and how AI is used across the curriculum; multicultural alumni receptions for the Association of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Latinx Alumni (ABLA), ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ College Black Alumni Association (BCBAA), and ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Asian Alumni Association, also known as RepresentAsian; and other gatherings.

At Reunion Convocation on Saturday, June 1, following a procession of alumni in Sidney J. Watson Arena and remarks from President Safa Zaki, two alumni and two staff members were honored with awards bestowed by the Alumni Council and ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ College Board of Trustees.

A lifelong advocate and champion of conservation, Ray “Bucky” Owen ’59 was selected by the board of trustees to receive the 2024 Common Good Award. Owen, a biology major at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾, served as commissioner of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, where he created and oversaw the Quality Fishing Initiative, a program that made sweeping changes to how Maine's wild native brook trout were managed. The Alumni Service Award, chosen by the Alumni Council, was presented to Michael Moynihan ’89, senior vice president of brand, marketing, insights, and partnerships at the LEGO Group, who has consistently and enthusiastically given his time and knowledge to the College, and especially to students. Moynihan, an economics and math major, has promoted the partnership between the Alumni Council and the Office of Career Exploration and Development (CXD) for the benefit of students. Two employees were selected to receive the Alumni Award for Faculty and Staff, presented each year in recognition of service and devotion to the College to recipients also chosen by the Alumni Council.

Director of Sustainability Keisha Payson was honored for what the Alumni Council describes as her “outstanding commitment and unparalleled dedication to fostering sustainability at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾.” Read more about Payson and her contributions here.
