Elroy "Roy" LaCasce, Jr. ’44
He grew up in Fryeburg ME and matriculated to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾, majoring in physics. He left the College early to work at the US Naval Research Lab (1943-44) and going on to a stint in the Foreign Service. He received an A.M. degree from Harvard and a PhD in Physics from Brown and specialized in ocean acoustics. He was an instructor at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ and Brown before joining ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾’s faculty in 1954 and enjoying a 60+ year teaching career.
Roy cared deeply about ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ and its students. He worked with the Office of Gift Planning to establish the LaCasce Family Chair in Natural Sciences and the E. O. LaCasce Jr. Physics Fund to support and enhance the education of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾’s physics majors through his estate plan.
Among the provisions in his estate plan, Roy bequeathed his home in Brunswick and his summer cottage on Sebago Lake to the College. Roy’s executor sold his properties and the net proceeds were added to the E.O. LacCasce Jr. Physics Fund.
