Departmental Fellowships

Freedman Summer Research Fellowship in Computer Science (Est. 2006)

Freedman Summer Research Fellowships were established by Dr. Alan M. Freedman of the Class of 1976 and his wife, Nancy, to support and encourage ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ undergraduates whose field of concentration is computer science to engage in faculty-student summer research projects in interdisciplinary pursuits. The fellowship emphasizes innovative ideas and concepts such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cognitive modeling, learning, human-computer collaboration, decision-making, speech and language processing, geographic information systems (GIS) and other data-intensive applications, computer and network security, and other computer science-related research. Preference is given to students who plan to continue their research at the graduate level. Candidates are identified by the computer science faculty.

Pay: $425/week and funding for research supplies

Time: Eight to ten weeks of full-time research

Housing: Housing subsidy included

Gerald J. Weinberger Fellowship in Computer Science (Est. 2019)

Weinberger Fellowships were established by Gerald J. Weinberger primarily to fund student research projects in Computer Science.  These projects can take several forms, including independent studies, honors projects, summer research (either independently or with ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ faculty), and other projects approved by the department.  Student researchers who need contracted web services or similar support for research in Computer Science are also eligible. Fellowships can also be used to provide funding for students to attend national computer science conferences, such as the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference and the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference, and for faculty approved special projects that support students in Computer Science beyond their ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ coursework. 

 

Institutional Fellowships

Gibbons Summer Research Program

The Gibbons Summer Research Program was established by John A. Gibbons, Jr. '64 to enable students to work with members of the faculty on projects that use technology to explore interdisciplinary areas and to develop fresh approaches to the study of complex problems.

Pay: $3400

Time: Eight to ten weeks

Eligibility: Open to students who are rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors
