On-Campus Noise Policy

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ College is, first and foremost, a community of scholars. In order to allow everyone to fully participate in the learning process, students may not engage in excessive noise that disturbs the ability of community members to engage in academic pursuits, obstructs classes, College business and faculty offices, the neighboring Brunswick community, and other campus activities.

The following guidelines comprise the College’s on-campus noise policy:

  1. Musical instruments, stereos, radios, televisions, and other electronic devices should be played at a level acceptable to individuals within the same room and that does not disturb community and non-ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ neighbors. Students may not place speakers in windows or direct sound out of windows in a way that disturbs the peace of the community.
  2. Other kinds of noise must be kept at levels that do not impinge on the rights of others.
  3. Residents of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ College housing must maintain music and other noise at levels that do not disturb adjacent areas. Music, television, movies, and video games should be inaudible outside a student’s room. Noise and other entertainment at any non-academic gatherings are restricted to College non-business hours (between 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.).
  4. Students may not engage in organized demonstrations (for example, rallies or speak-outs) in which the noise level disrupts the educational processes of the College.
  5. Students seeking an exception to the above should make a request in writing to the Dean of Students.
  6. Students must comply with any published by the town of Brunswick.
