First-Year Student Packing List
What You May Bring:
- Twin XL size bedding
- Sheets, pillows, pillow cases, blankets, etc.
- Chargers for all electronic products (new MacBooks and iPads will include chargers).
- Academic materials
- Notebooks
- Pencils and pens
- Highlighters
- Calculator
- Headphones
- Clothing
- Clothing Hangers
- Semi-formal clothing
- Anticipate cold weather beginning in November (think layers)
- Personal medications
- Toiletries
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, hair products and tools, shower products, towel, shower shoes, etc.
- Bathroom tote to bring your toiletries back and forth to the bathroom
- Laundry basket or bag. Laundry is free.
- Laundry Detergent
- Athletic gear
- Room decor
What You May Bring, But Might Not Need:
- TV
- Gaming systems
- Extension cords
- Microwave (This is an item you might want to discuss with your roommates, you will learn who they are in early August.)
- Fridges
- Fan
- Iron
- Drying rack
- Broom (All buildings have a broom in the laundry room or trash room that students can use for their personal room.)
- Napkins or paper towels
- Rug (This is an item you might want to discuss with your roommates.)
- Standing lamps or desk lamps
What You Should Not Bring:
There is a comprehensive list of prohibited items on the Residential Life Policies webpage (Subsection B, Number 4). A few key items are below, but please review the webpage for the longer list.
- Candles—please note that any student found with a candle in residence, even if not lit or wickless, will face disciplinary consequences, beginning with probation (see the Code of Community Standards for more information)
- Pets—including fish
- Firearms or any dangerous weapons
- Space heaters
- 3M Command Strips
- Battery powered bicycles, boards, or scooters (see Safety & Security's official policy here)
