Buoy

The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Buoy Facility (BBF), a scientific buoy near the Schiller Coastal Studies Center in Harpswell Sound, was installed to study Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs).

Overview

The BBF was made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation and is the result of a partnership among ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾, Bigelow Laboratory, and St. Joseph's College. Among its managers is ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾'s Collin Roesler.

The Schiller Coastal Studies Center provides a sentinel site at the edge of the Gulf of Maine to understand the impact of climate change on coastal systems and to monitor key aspects of quickly-changing physical and biological environments.

The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ buoy project allows continuous monitoring of Harpswell Sound, and the high capacity seawater system of the marine laboratory provides exceptional experimental capabilities across an array of disciplines.
