Tutoring and Support

The Francophone studies department offers a variety of support and learning resources for students studying French.

Educational Resources


Tutors

Students who feel the need for additional tutoring should discuss this with their professor. The professor will then contact the BCLT, located in HL library, to arrange for additional help.

Writing Assistants

The Writing Project offers forty-five-minute writing workshops or semester-long peer tutorials for students writing papers in any ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ course. Some Francophone studies courses have assigned writing assistants who work with students throughout the semester. Get more information at their website or drop in at their offices in Kanbar Hall.

Research Resources

The Francophone studies department library liaison, Carmen Greenlee, is an invaluable resource. She is available to help students obtain French-language sources and conduct research. The library has a strong selection of French materials, but plan ahead. Many secondary materials need to be ordered through NExpress, MIN, or interlibrary loan. Articles can often be accessed through online databases.

Each fall, the Department hires two or three teaching assistants who plan and lead weekly conversation sections with Francophone Studies 1101 students. Instructors will provide information on the application process at the very start of the academic year. At the beginning of each semester, the Baldwin Center for Learning and Teaching hires, upon student/faculty request, a few tutors. The Department recommends junior and senior Francophone studies majors for these positions. The Department values having advanced students of Francophone studies as writing assistants for its courses and regularly recommends strong writers to the program.
