ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Public Service Summer Fellowships
The Maine Government & Lee Lockwood Fellowships support specific internship positions with local and state offices.
Fellowship amounts for Summer 2025 will be $6,000, with an additional $1,000 expenses supplement for students of aid.
Summer 2025 positions are with:
- the Maine Department of Education
- the Town of Brunswick
- the Town of Harpswell
- the Town of Topsham
- additional options will be added in January
As part of the fellowship program, fellows are required to:
- Participate in orientation to the program prior to the start of the fellowship;
- Gather periodically with other fellows and staff for discussions;
- Present a summary of the experience at the end of the summer.
Eligibility
The fellowship is open to all ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ students in good standing who apply during their first, sophomore, or junior years. If you are not a US citizen or green card holder, please speak with Dean Danielle Hussey prior to submitting your summer fellowship application, so that you can learn more about the required process.
Please note that the McKeen Center will conduct a disciplinary standing check with the Dean of Students office for fellowship finalists.
Timeline
- December 2024: Application goes live
- January 31, 2025: Applications due by noon (12:00 PM) EST
- February 12: Students are notified whether their application is being forwarded for consideration to host office
- February: Host offices interview candidates
- March 7: Students notified of placement offer
- March 17: Final student acceptances due via email
- June 3: Fellowship begins & fellow orientation
- Week of July 21: Summer celebration
- August 8: Fellowships conclude

- A separate cover letter is needed for each position
