Diversity and Inclusion

The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Outing Club is committed to creating a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive space for all students.

Our goal is that any student who wants to participate in any component of our program feels welcome to do so and accepted sharing their authentic selves. We work to reduce barriers to participation, shift the predominant outdoor narrative, and increase a sense of belonging to our community for all students.

1. Trip Leader Training – Because our students lead most of our excursions and determine the culture of this club we are committed to providing training opportunities to expose students to perspectives different from their own and help them create positive outdoor experiences for their peers.

2. Funding Opportunities – Student aid is available for most programming. Students inhibited from participating in outing club trips and/or leadership training trips due to a financial barrier can apply for funding to be able to participate. For example, if a leadership training trip conflicts with a work study shift, the student can apply for funding to offset the cost of wages lost when choosing to participate in a BOC trip. For all funding related inquiries please contact Outing Club staff.

3. Collaborative programming – The Outing Club collaborates with a number of on-campus organizations to offer outdoor programming. These partnerships include collaboration with the Sexuality, Women, and Gender Center for the Wild Women Program and Out in the Woods program. Additionally, students who have completed one of our Leadership Training programs often lead trips for other organizations of which they are members. These students have led trips for the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), Asian Student Association (ASA), International Student Association (ISA), Women of Color Coalition, and various athletic teams.

4. Swim Lessons – the Outing Club funds swim lessons for students who have not had the opportunity to learn. Please contact one of the staff for more information.

5. Inclusivity Coordinators – Each year we hire a student to work with us in our inclusivity efforts.
