Jessica LaVoice is an assistant professor of economics. She is an applied microeconomist with research interests in public economics, urban economics, and economic history.

Her work seeks to understand the role of public policies in shaping long-run neighborhood outcomes, with a specific focus on understanding the relationship between private markets, government, and race at key points in American history. Her current research agenda explores controversial government policies including the federal urban renewal and slum clearance program established by the Housing Act of 1949 and the development of residential security maps (more commonly referred to as redlining maps) by the Home Owners Loan Corporation in the 1930s. Much of her current work uses primary sources and arcGIS to assemble novel historical datasets.
