Max Lykins
Visiting Assistant Professor of Government
I am a Visiting Assistant Professor in Government in the Department of Government and Legal Studies. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy at the University of Virginia. I am a political theorist with interests in ancient political thought and the republican tradition.
My current book project focuses on the Roman historian Tacitus. In it, I reconstruct the elements of his republican political philosophy and show how thinking with Tacitus is helpful for contemporary republican theorists. Other current projects of mine include articles on Tacitus and Sallust. Some of my previous work has appeared in Polis: The Journal for Greek and Roman Political Thought and Political Research Quarterly.
