Shruti Devgan

Shruti Devgan’s teaching and research focuses on narratives, media, memory, emotions, families, and transnational flows, with an emphasis on South Asia/America/ns. She is currently working on a book project on the digital, diasporic, and intergenerational memories of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence. Grounded in theories of social formation of memory, trauma, and community; stories; media and technology; and transnational networks, the book explores the mediated and evolving narratives of 1984 and the differences within Indian/South Asian Americans. Using the case of the North American Sikh diaspora, the study illustrates how the intersection of social contexts in which memories are created and transmitted across generations and "affordances" of digital technologies, shape the construction and circulation of counter-narratives.
