Student Application

Denning applications are only open to rising seniors (or first semester seniors) and applications for work anywhere in the United States will be reviewed, but there is a preference for work in Maine.

Denning Application

Denning Fellowship applicants can, but do not need to, secure a community partner placement prior to applying for the fellowship. However, we do ask that students who have not secured a placement beforehand have the following in their application: an idea of what community they want to work in; multiple community partners to which they are planning to approach, updates on what those application processes look like/the applicant's current status; an idea on how their summer work could inform their senior year academics afterward.

All accepted Denning fellows must then finalize an organization placement by April 30.

Denning Application Materials

  • A completed Denning Summer Fellowship application contains the following materials in one PDF:
    • A 1-2 page single-spaced Fellowship Proposal that includes clear ideas for a candidate's summer project including area of interest, possible community organizations, likely location, type of project, target population, and how the work will intersect with academic pursuits. Applications will be considered if a candidate has an internship offer already or if a candidate has solid ideas for their summer project. Proposals should include clear ideas for their summer projects (including possible community organizations, area of interest, type of project, target population), but do not need to have all details worked out at the time of submission.
    • An up-to-date resume (including two ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ references - one must be a faculty member who can speak to your research abilities and skills. Please note – we only need their contact information. They do not need to provide a recommendation letter)

Please note that the McKeen Center will conduct a disciplinary standing check with the Office of the Dean of Students prior to making fellowship offers.
