Peer Educator workshops are regularly offered to Athletic teams, College Houses, and First-year Floors.

You can also request a workshop for any group on campus by emailing OGVPHE director Rachel Reinke at rreinke@bowdoin.edu.

Workshops the Peer Educators currently offer:

• Encouraging Positive Party Outcomes
  • Participants will understand how physical spaces, substance use, and power dynamics affect the outcomes of a party. They will also work to build a culture of care and active upstander-ship within party spaces.

• Consent
  • Participants will feel more confident in their understanding of consent, and feel empowered and willing to practice these concepts in their daily lives.

• Relationship Goals: Practicing Healthy Communication
  • Participants will practice setting and respecting boundaries. They will also learn and apply communication skills, develop an understanding of their own wants and how to advocate for their needs, and practice empathy for others.

• Sex & Intimacy
  • Participants will develop an all-encompassing definition of sex. They will also learn how to engage in sexual activity safely and pleasurably.

• Alcohol 101
  • Participants will gain a better understanding of how alcohol affects them, and equip themselves with tools to make healthy decisions that improve the safety of their community.

• Compassion in Action: Supporting Friends Through Harm
  • Participants will learn how to support their peers who have experienced harm in a way that restores agency. They will also gain a better understanding of both on and off resources for those who have experienced harm / sexual violence, as well as what support is available to them as the supporter.

The OGVPHE Peer Educators are dedicated to providing accurate health information, fostering open and safe environments, debunking assumptions, and reaching out to the communities of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ College in order to foster healthy decision-making. Peer Educators' continuing goal is to empower all students to make healthy decisions for themselves and others through interactive teaching workshops and conversations on the topics of sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and gender violence prevention.

Peer Educators are student employees that are affiliated with the Office of Gender Violence Prevention and Health Education.

Peer Educators must:

• Attend weekly meetings Mondays 4:30-6pm
• Have an interest and enthusiasm in promoting healthy behaviors related to consent, sexual health, and substance use
• Be open minded, understanding, and respect others at all times
• Have the ability to interact and present information to students and the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ community
• Learn curricula of and regularly co-facilitate workshops on substances, sexual health, and consent
• Attend paid fall and spring trainings the week before classes begin

To apply to join the Peer Educator team: submit the application (open in February) and complete an interview. No prior experience in health education is required, as Peer Educators receive extensive training in the content of our workshops, facilitation skills, and more, prior to teaching workshops around campus.
