Get Involved

There are many ways you can help prevent gender violence and promote consent culture at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾. Here are a few:

  • Hold peers accountable: Be an active bystander. Confront your peers when they say or do things that are offensive or abusive toward others. Take appropriate and safe action if you witness someone being pressured, harassed, or assaulted.

  • Join a student organization working to end sexual violence:  is dedicated to creating spaces on campus for women to discuss the intersections of gender norms around femininity and gender violence. It aims to start dialogue at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ around womanhood and to give a voice to women's experiences on campus with an emphasis on providing a safe space for women to share stories of gender-based violence. Its work supports the constant evolution of "RISE: Untold Stories of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ Women," an annual production featuring ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ women telling stories written by ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ women, and sparks important discussion on campus. You can also submit your own story to RISE and have your voice be heard.

  • Volunteer in our off-campus community: Community agencies like (SASSMM) and could use your help. Consider volunteering to help with efforts to end sexual and relationship violence. For more opportunities and information about resources in Maine, check the .
