Multi-site or Collaborative Research
When two or more institutions collaborate on a research project, it is best practice for researchers to identify one institution as the primary IRB (i.e., IRB of record). This primary IRB is responsible for the human subjects review of the protocol. The other sites can then, with the establishment of a reliance agreement, rely on that primary IRB for review. This can reduce administrative burden and streamline processes across sites.
If ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ will be the IRB of record, then the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø±¬ÍøÕ¾ PI(s) should go to to initiate the reliance agreement process. Doing so will alert Cara Martin-Tetreault, who will facilitate the agreement. If another institution will be the IRB of record, their IRB will facilitate the reliance agreement process, preferably through SMART IRB. For questions about this process, please contact Cara Martin-Tetreault.
